Getting avatars made easy...
Dear all
As I'm sure many of you have seen, you can add a nice little picture to your Practical Caravan profile. Thing is, the picture must be 30kb or less - which is very small.
If you want a picture on your profile but don't want to spend too long editing images, I've used the shrinkpictures.com website. You simply upload an image, it shrinks it and turns it into a square that will fit the box on the site. Then you download the small version of the picture back. I've done it several times - it works and hasn't downloaded anything nasty to my computer. Click here to go there
Cheers
Ah! Linked to the wrong bit of the site. Have edited the link in the original post, but just in case, this is the correct link
Good spot and thanks!
I bet that the time you spent on the computer magazine is coming in useful now Nigel.lol
It's coming back to me Deli Dave!
Hi Nigel
I've been trying to change my avatar, I've used the link for the avatar maker, the image is on my computer etc, etc. On PC, I type my password in on 'edit' bit, I delete the current pic and browse for my reduced size new pic, select it and Ozzy just keeps coming back.
Lisa
Sooooooo glad you said that Lisa. I put a piccy in, a few words on it like Soozeeg's, but so small you couldn't read it. Managed to delete it but everytime I tried to put a different one in the first one came back. I thought it was me, so kept quiet.
thank you so much.
heads up Techies there is a problem here, Lisa and I can't both be doing it wrong.
(the above said with more confidence than may actually be the case)
Mel
Looking into it! Answer in the morning. Hopefully...

Ozzy just keeps coming back - cos Sharon spends all of his *$!!@#&!! money and won't let him retire :0)
After you have selected your new avatar do you remember to press 'Save' ?

Thanks Nigel.
Parks of course Mel and I have pressed 'save' - we're women don't forget, we read instructions first then carry out the action, not the other way round like you blokes do.
Ooooh, I don't like Sharon. I think there's either a glitch in the system on here or Mr Crowley is interferring from the other side.
Lisa
Thanks for pointing this out, it's a hangover from adding our CDN, (content delivery network) that has improved the performance of the site. A CDN "caches" all of the images and other static files so the main site doesn't have to serve them hence the improvement in performamce.
In short the pictures are getting updated but the CDN isn't picking them up, we are looking into it right now and will at least have an answer fairly soon.

Hi Nigel, thanks for the info, however I don't wish to come across as a skinflint but,it would appear that it is a one-off shot and a BuyItNow or subscription site.Have you looked at the VSO Software(forum) site.It is to all intents a free to use site but you register with an identity like on any forum.
