This does not appear to be good news for those that have BP Gaslite cylinders.  I wonder what will happen and whether people will get refunds on their bottles?

A review of BP’s LPG portfolio in 2011 revealed that it is not the natural long-term owner of the LPG bottles and tank filling business. This gave the oil giant the liberty to carry out the asset sale.

hi,all.

last year while trying to decide wether to go for the plastic BP bottles or the calorlite ones, I was pursuaded to go for calorlite in the end as they could be obtained as a straight swop for the 6kg ones we had allready.

the news above appears to have made the choice I made the right one,  however I would not assume that BP gas will disapear it must be a viable franchise for someone to maintain and I hardly think BP would take out of service all the gas pumps on thier forcourts.

only time will tell?

Top Tips

• Larger cylinders normally work out much cheaper per unit of gas than smaller ones

• Use bathroom scales or a spring balance to check how much gas is left in a cylinder

• Ensure high and low pressure 'rubber' hoses are changed regularly - at least once every 3 years

• Get your gas system checked at least once per year by a competent person

• If you exchange a cylinder at a distribution depot it is normally possible to get a 10% discount

I think the high cost of the deposit for the bottle could have been a contributing factor towarsd the uptake being low oin Gaslite.  many people have 2 bogttles in their caravan and the deposit x 3 was just a bit much.  We are looking at the Safefill or Gaslow systems as we plan to keep the current caravan for a very long time.

I might be wrong, but I thought that the Gaslow system was a fixed system ?

So would you have to take the van to the garage to re-fill the bottle with the Gaslow system ?

Not like the SafeFill where you take can the empty bottle to the garage to refill ?

Story now on the website - we spoke to BP which says the system is carrying on and a buyer is sought for the business, so all is not lost. Yet.

There was an article on the local news this morning about the theft of gas cylinders for the tat value.

Calor are looking into composite cylinders in the future. So lock up your gas cylinders
