I don't want to sell my old van when I take delivery of new one so I arranged temporary insurance cover,£48 for 14 days. The alternative is to cash in tax aand SORN it and keep off road as if it is taxed it has to have insurance cover even if its not used.Tesco seemed the best one online insurer wanted £160 for a month.

Whinge over

The rexton is being part exchanged so no issues but am due a refund of nearly £60Laughing

I'll never understand insurances!! A car worth about 5k being cheaper to insure than one worth 33k!!!! okay so it may be cheaper to repair but it'll do more damage to others and has lower security and safety features. Hey who's complaining when it's in my favour!!

Cars get allocated into insurance groups based on the insurance industry perception of the type of driver who buys a particular model - anyone buying the sort of car that boy-racers choose will pay high insurance even if their personal driving record is impeccable - and vice-versa!

Yes that quite true Roger and it also matters what make it is the Vauxhall Meriva is far cheaper to insure than the Megane was even though it's value is 4x more.

by the way Dave could not your own van insurers do something for you,

when I bought the Meriva after the cambelt broke on the Megane my insurers the COOP extended the cover on the megane for 1month so I could have time to dispose of it, it cost £10.I think the cover was third party only but hey it wasn't going anywhere with a wrecked engine but seeing as how it was still taxed and parked on the street it had to be insured.

Hi "Sir Chunky" of the woosie round table

I did in fact use my insurers Tesco,it may be that as a grey import it is not as easy to insure, also I wanted it fully comp as I could then use it if necesary. Thanks for the input .

Have confidence, the new one won't break down!! Mine hasn't yet!!  I agree on the perceptions of who is going to buy a certain car but is it's true that the only people who buy are defender are either enthusiasts, farmers or MAD then should I be allowed on the road?? Time for my pills bye bye
