Hi Guys . Now here is a wish from her indoors. We would like to go  down to The New Forest (Easter) but what we would like is a reasonably quiet site that will take dogs, would like  good dog walks as we have a collie that doesnt get tired until long after we do .Shower and toilet  handy but not  essential.

Any suggestions welcome .

Spent 10 days at the Caravan Club site at Black Knowl last July. Lovely site near Brockenhurst. Walk out of the site and you are right in the New Forest itself. You can walk for miles from here.New Forest ponies come righ tup to the cattle grid gate. We did quite a lot of sight seeing here as wellas the walks. Southampton (by train), Lymington, Gosport ( visit to the Submarine was very interesting), Portsmouth docks with the HMS Victory, SS Warrior etc.

Excellent base- good local shops in Brockenhurst.

No ideas about sites, but as the ex owner of a collie cross, I used to sit on the top of a hill, throw the ball down the hill, and our dog used to love retrieving it. Dog tired and happy: owner not completely shattered. This idea has not been patented, so please feel free to use it. Laughing

Does not work too well in East Anglia.

Jim.

Hi Mate

Been to Black Knowle, cracking site, fall out of the site right into the forest, planty of walking. Ther is also Hunters Moon, near Wareham, walk out the back of teh site for good dog walks, or go down the main road for approx 500 yards then into the forest, with very good walks.

The first one is a shorh walk in Brockenhurst, you also get a butcher turn up with local produce, sausages and the like. Had a great time at both sites

Hi Sir Roger,

Our last outing of 2011 was to a C &CC certified site in Sway, Rushcroft Farm. We had a lovely few days there and although it's only a certified site it has showers and toilets. A very quiet spot except for the railway line which passes the site but even that's not very intrusive as it's on an embankment so most of the noise literally goes clean over your head!

We'll certainly be returning one day.

Good day to you Farty old bean  Smile

Like others, I've been to Black Knowl and it's an excellent site but, and it's a big but, it's so popular you might not get in for Easter now. For dogs it's excellent and you can walk for miles without going onto a road. If you get fed up of that walk there are other places you can go with way marked paths running alongside streams. Just pop the dog in the car and there's plenty of parking places.

Lots of very nice CL's around but all depends whether you want to be heading out of the forest and which way.  We used to go to a CL on stocks Lane at Landford which was very quiet, EHU and toilet for weekends as it was only 20 mins down the road and it avoided hitting Lyndhurst at all which can be a regular nightmare to get through. Another nice CL was an alpaca farm near fordingbridge if you want to be that side of the forest. If you want easy coastal access then there are a lot of CLs in the Hordle area which also give good acess across the forest but have not used any of these! We're probably going to Plaitford for February half term because of the location for visiting friends and family in the forest as well as Winchester. Good luck!

Here is a site that I mean to go to when down that way next time. It's owned by a retired vet and from memory there are walks from the site into woods. It's a CL.
