Lady Bailey Caravans, a caravan retailer which claimed to be Dorset’s biggest, has closed down just before Christmas.
The dealership, at Winterborne Whitchurch, near Blandford Forum, had been run for over 30 years by Nick Farmer and Chris Gray. It sold new and used tourers from Bailey, one of the biggest makes of caravans in the country, and the manufacturer of vans such as the Alicanto Grande Evora and the Discovery D4-2.
But a notice on the Lady Bailey Caravan’s website says that “with a heavy heart” both directors have decided to retire, on account of Chris’s poor health.
The notice gives details of six other local companies who may be able to deal with repair work and servicing.
It says anyone with an active service plan should receive a letter shortly from the scheme administrator detailing how any full or partial refund will be handled.
Anyone with a Bailey warranty, it says, can have this transferred to another approved Bailey dealer or repairer. Anyone with a 12-month MB&G warranty can also have work carried out elsewhere.
But there will be “very few” customers waiting for used warranty work to be completed who will now find that it cannot be carried out.
Similarly, all 2025 servicing bookings have been cancelled.
Lady Bailey Caravans, which put itself up for sale in 2022 but failed to find a buyer, is located next to a residential park but this is not affected by the closure.
