MG has revealed the new HS SUV, with prices starting from under £25,000. It is larger than the old model, with more interior space and luggage room, and uprated infotainment.
As before, buyers have the choice of a 1.5-litre turbo petrol and a 1.5-litre plug-in hybrid (PHEV). Both powertrains have been updated, with the plug-in car’s larger battery giving an official electric-only range of up to 75 miles.
Caravanners are generally fond of SUVs for towing and there is a big selection on the market. In the case of the new MG HS, the car is offered in SE and Trophy spec. The more affordable SE has LED headlights, rear parking sensors and camera, electric front seat adjustment, air-con, rain-sensing wipers and more.
Upgrades for Trophy include 19-inch alloys, front fog lights, a powered tailgate, eight-speaker stereo, a 360-degree camera system and wireless smartphone charging.
The petrol has 169hp and 203lb ft of torque, while the plug-in combines a 142hp petrol motor and a 154kW/207hp electric motor. Kerbweights and towing limits are still to come, but the old petrol had a maximum towing figure of 1750kg (1500kg for the hybrid).
The range starts at £24,995 for the petrol in SE spec, with the range-topping Trophy PHEV costing £33,995. The PHEVs cost £5500 more than the petrol models.
Before you buy any vehicle, you’ll want to know it’s up to the task of towing your tourer – that’s where knowing the steps involved when matching a car to a caravan comes in.
