Verdict
If you’re after a single-axle luxury caravan, the 8ft-wide Elegance Grande 760 will provide ample space for a couple on long tours. Its sleek design will turn heads – this has to be one of the best-looking tourers on the market.
The modern construction should give trouble-free touring, too. With an already high spec, options such as the self-levelling system are something to consider adding if you are constantly on the move.
Pros
- Crisp exterior styling, good spec, spacious L-shaped lounge, supportive seating
Cons
- No washroom window, no shower roof vent
Swift hasn’t stood still over the past 12 months, adding extra models for 2024 to the 8ft-wide Elegance Grande range. This includes the Swift Elegance Grande 760, a single-axle split-washroom tourer with a rear island bed, one that impressed us enough to be a winner at the Practical Caravan Awards 2024.
Pitch and set-up
The 760 is a single-axle that offers a truly luxury touring experience for two, although it is a four berth caravan. It looks big, perhaps due to the super-smart styling. Swift (see: the best caravan manufacturers for more on them) has made the front end very aerodynamic, with a sunroof and a GRP moulding that houses a large gas locker.
The well-finished sidewalls are also GRP, and we particularly like the way the elegant grey colour scheme blends in with the overall white panels.
Smart graphics are employed on the exterior, while the rear GRP back panel comes with LED roadlights and fixing points for the optional Thule bike rack.
The Al-Ko chassis provides heavy-duty steadies and ATC is also fitted. Outside, you’ll find a barbecue connection, a mains power socket, a TV point and the external shower connection.
Great-looking alloys are fitted, as is a Status TV aerial, 100W solar panel, Truma mains water line and an LED awning light on each side of the van. There is an exterior access locker door on both sides at the rear. And, of course, you have the construction system that dispensed with wood years ago.
Lounge in the Swift Elegance Grande 760
Yes, this caravan layout back! The L-shaped lounge has certainly regained respect with caravanners. The wall opposite this one is the position for a TV ( check out the best caravan TVs if you’re looking for one for your tourer), with a large cupboard below.
The overhead lockers are in a modern design with a white gloss finish. The front triple windows have curtains, while there is just a blind on the offside window.
A hallmark of the best caravans will be a well-lit and comfortable lounge, something that the Elegance Grande 760 provides. The large sunroof and the Heki roof vent allow in lots of natural light and there is plenty of LED lighting for night-time.
There is a mains socket on the TV wall and a radio is also fitted, with its speakers in the ceiling. Ultraleather Dusk upholstery gives the lounge a classy look and – just as important – is comfortable to sit on.
Above the entrance door you will find a new, easier-to-read control panel.
Kitchen in the Swift Elegance Grande 760
The L-shaped side kitchen shows great build quality and feels nicely compact. It has an extension flap for more worktop, and you could use the top of the small cupboard by the door, too.
There is a large stainless-steel sink, a Thetford oven and a dual-fuel four-burner hob. You get two mains sockets here. Overhead is a flush-fit caravan microwave, with LED lighting to keep this section well illuminated, and an integrated extractor. Opposite is a Dometic slimline fridge with 133-litre capacity.
Beds in the Swift Elegance Grande 760
This island bed caravan will probably be bought by couples, so it’s good to know the fixed bed comes with a Duvalay Duvalite Apollo Luxe mattress. The settee also makes up a 1.94 x 1.22m double, using the Accuride system.
Washroom in the Swift Elegance Grande 760
The washroom is split across the van, with the main section on the offside housing an integrated handbasin and a large mirror. There’s no window, so for natural light and ventilation, you rely on the roof extractor fan. A Thetford cassette toilet is fitted opposite, with a radiator.
The floor area in here is fine, because you can fold back the door to shut off the main living area. Night illumination is taken care of with LED lighting.
The shower cubicle opposite receives its natural light and ventilation from the centrally placed roof vent. There’s no roof vent in the shower itself, and the cubicle is relatively basic.
Storage in the Swift Elegance Grande 760
For a couple on tour, storage is excellent and even for four, there won’t be a shortage of space, one of the factors that helped it win the best caravan for seasonal pitches category at the Practical Caravan Awards 2024. In the front, you get overhead lockers and a side cabinet, as well as space underneath the front section of the settee.
The rear bedroom is provided with twin wardrobes, with smaller cupboards beneath, and large overhead lockers. There is also excellent storage capacity below the bed itself. The kitchen offers drawer and cupboard storage, with overhead lockers and one locker above the fridge. There are slide-out baskets, and you can also use the cupboard by the door for more food storage.
Washroom storage space is pretty good, with a cupboard below the handbasin and a useful wall cupboard next to the mirror.
Alternatives to consider
The Bailey Pegasus Grande GT75 Messina comes with a spacious interior and plenty of extras to make it a tempting choice. Alternatively, there’s also the Swift Elegance Grande 860, the twin-axle counterpart which offers lots of storage and space. If you’d like a cheaper option from the manufacturer, the Swift Sprite Grande Quattro EB is more of an entry-level option that provides good value for the spec.
